Rigid Films
Our rigid films are plastic films that offer significantly higher stiffness and strength compared to softer films. They are made from various materials, primarily polyester (PET), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer). These films provide excellent mechanical rigidity and are particularly suited for applications requiring stability and strong barrier properties.
Properties of Rigid Films
- High stiffness: Rigid films are much stiffer than soft films and maintain their shape even under mechanical stress.
- Stable form: They retain their structure and are ideal for MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) that requires stable shape retention.
- Protection: Provide good barriers against external influences such as moisture and oxygen.
- Transparency: Often transparent, allowing good visibility of the contents even though the material is robust.
Materials Used in Rigid Films
- Polyester (APET): Frequently used due to its good chemical resistance, high strength, and excellent barrier properties.
- Polypropylene (PP): Also common, offering chemical resistance, high strength, and thermal stability.
- Polyethylene (PE): Typically used as a sealing layer.
- Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH): Acts as an oxygen barrier layer.
Applications of Rigid Films
Product Packaging
- Food packaging: Often used for packaging meat, sausage, cheese, and ready meals under protective atmosphere thanks to excellent moisture and oxygen barrier properties.
Blister packaging
- Commonly used as the base for blister packs that securely and visibly package products like tablets, batteries, or small parts.
Advantages of Rigid Films
- Protection and safety: Provide excellent protection against oxygen, moisture, and mechanical damage.
- Stability and durability: Maintain shape under impact or pressure, ideal for products that must not deform.
- Presentation and visibility: Transparency ensures high product visibility, especially suitable for retail products.
- Versatile design options: Can be printed to enhance branding and marketing messages.
Summary
Rigid films are strong, durable plastic films used in a wide range of applications where protection, strength, and shape stability are required. They offer excellent barrier properties against external influences and are especially useful for packaging products that need stable form and high protection.
